There is currently a historic shortfall between NCDOT’s budget and need when it comes to road construction and repairs. With the gasoline tax being its main revenue stream, what impact will the rise in sales of electric and hybrid vehicles have on it? What are some ideas for diversification of funding? The North Carolina Chamber’s Destination 2030 looks at various ideas and what could potentially reduce and replace the gas tax.

House Bill 951 Energy Solutions for North Carolina (HB951) became law in October 2021, marking North Carolina’s largest energy policy milestone since 2017. Supported by The Chamber, the bill addresses carbon reduction, clean energy transition and competitive procurement of renewable energy.
