In these constantly changing times, you can count on your chamber to be with you to offer support, resources and information. As a small business, we understand your concerns and will work closely with you to try to find answers.
Last week, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act that provides great benefits for families and businesses. We have received questions from you how this translates to your business, so our friends at The Employer Association offer this help. They have a concise recap of the bill, along with the changes to North Carolina’s unemployment laws. Please note that under the Family and Medical Leave Expansion, there is an exemption for small businesses with less than 50 employees if requirements would jeopardize the viability of the business. We are working to get clarification how this will be handled.
Because we want you to hear factual, time relevant information, we are hosting a Facebook Live Town Hall on Thursday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m. for you to hear directly from our community leaders and subject matter experts for updates on COVID-19, policies and procedures. We are grateful to Market Street Studios for producing this for us! Here’s the lineup:
10:00 a.m. – 10: 05 a.m. Barbi Jones, Executive Director, The Chamber
10:05 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Representative from Congressman Richard Hudson’s office will review federal laws and relief packages
10:15 a.m. – 10:20 a.m. Mike Downs, County Manager, Cabarrus County, will update on changes in Cabarrus County
10:20 a.m. – 10:25 a.m. Erin Shoe, Interim Director, Cabarrus Health Alliance, will update the current situation and advisories from the County’s public health perspective
10:25 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. Kenny Colbert, CEO, The Employers Association will review and clarify the recent policies around unemployment
10:40 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Levi Kinnard, Economic Development Specialist, Small Business Administration, will review the SBA’s new guidelines for low interest loans for businesses affected by COVID-19
10:50 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. Chris Bowe, Market President, Atrium Health (tentative), will address our local hospital’s procedures and preparedness
10:55 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Donna Carpenter, President, Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau, will overview travel and tourism impacts in Cabarrus County
11:00 a.m. – 11:05 a.m. Robby Carney, Executive Director, Cabarrus County EDC, will update on pending recruitment projects
11:05 a.m. – 11:10 a.m. Barbi Jones
